Political Communication

A stack of newspapers tied together with string, placed on a surface. The newspapers are black and white with visible headlines and text.

Why?

Have you ever wondered how some people seem to always turn a conversation to an angle that suits them? Are you frustrated when people spin, obfuscate and distract your audience from the real issues?

At Windy City Training, we can’t teach political acuity, but we can give you the tools to navigate complex political situations in any workplace.

Some of the things our political communication courses can cover are:

  • understanding political decision making (big “P” and small “p”)

  • writing a great media release

  • developing a communications plan

  • crisis communication

  • learning how to spin (so you can spot it when others do)

  • mastering internal communications

Key learning outcomes

Staff completing the Political Communication course will:

  • understand the context for how and why we write for ministers, boards and councils

  • be able to confidently identify their audience

  • learn about tools and techniques to make their writing more persuasive

  • be able to apply these tools to a range of documents they use in their everyday work
