Machinery of Government
Why?
Do you find yourself befuddled by a barrage of acronyms like AM, WPC, OPQ, MO and BIM? Do you have people in your team who are new graduates, have come from operational roles or from outside the public sector?
Windy City Training can demystify and explain the machinery of Government - that is, how information is conveyed and decisions are made within and between government agencies, ministerial offices and the Parliament.
We’ll tailor a course specific to your agency and using your processes and terminology, and all our courses reflect up-to-date best practice advice from key agencies like the Public Service Commission. Our Machinery of Government courses can cover things like:
responding to Official Information Act requests
answering parliamentary questions
engaging with Select Committees
writing annual report content
good record keeping
briefing incoming Ministers
Key learning outcomes
Staff completing the Machinery of Government course will:
understand and be able to comply with statutory requirements under the Official Information Act 1982 and the Public Records Act 2005
understand the reasons why these requirements exist
be able to respond effectively to parliamentary questions
understand how to select and edit information for critical documents, such as annual reports and briefings for incoming Ministers
